Okay, to blame a little, but I’m a firm believer (now, anyways, I used to let shit slide way too long – for myself and others) in early consequences.
When there are no consequences, or the consequences aren’t painful enough, it sends the message that bad behaviour is okay. People who trend toward bad behaviour will take that as a license to print bad deeds.
See Trump, Donald and almost all Republicans.
If he and the other fascists had been held to account early on, when their less offensive behaviours were still the worst thing about them, if they felt damage then, pushback then, they would have pulled back.
But they were given a pass, time and time again. And so, they learned there’s no consequences. They can do worse.
And here we are.
On the other side, the high road-lovin’ Democrats held themselves to a ridiculous standard, and felt a few critical remarks were enough. They made excuses as to why his criminal behaviour wasn’t landing him in jail, where it should have.
They didn’t want to be seen as offside.
And here we are.
Quite frankly, it’s been a group of drunken, violent, bigoted frat boys who’ve been allowed to do whatever they want by the administration, versus a bunch of pansies muttering in the corner like they’re Woody Allen.
Where’s your teeth, goddamnit?
You have them. Use them.
Otherwise, we’re all going to choke.
