rondeau joe’s, v2

Well, that was worth over a pound and a half.

Jesus.

For a fucking wrap. These little country restaurants, always sticking it to the people with their damn good food.

Whatever shall we do?

rondeau

Here we go, Rondeau Joe’s.

I’ve managed to lose a few pounds of late, so why the fuck not?

Let’s undo all the hard work.

The restraint.

There are days where I wonder why we are punished to live.

There are days where an end would be preferable to continuation.

There are days.

But then, there’s food and that allows me to combine enjoyment and a death wish, so I guess we’re all good.

bib-dewey

Named by a neighbour after something to do with the library system, he’s been hanging around here since we moved in.

And now he’s gone, missing. We saw him, a few blocks away, digging in some bushes. He’s been scrawny for months; something was clearly wrong.

Mangy, the last time I got close to him, he had poop on the back of his legs.

Poor little guy. We spent a lot of time petting him. While I don’t really approve of the outdoor cat thing myself, it has always been nice to have them hanging about, especially when they are as friendly as can be.

And Bibbers was one of those.

Very friendly, loved a good pet. Had a little snaggle tooth which meant you could always pick him out from the other black cats with the little white spot on their chest.

And now he’s gone, wandered off to spend his final moments alone, in peace. It’s heartbreaking not to know the end.

It’s heartbreaking she didn’t do something about him much earlier; there is mercy in the cessation of suffering, when that suffering cannot be abated.

I’m sorry, Bib. I wish we’d realized sooner.

weird

I had to get up with Sofi in the storm last night and given that I didn’t want her getting stuck under the bed again, I brought her downstairs, where I proceeded to have my best sleep in a week.

On the couch.

What the actual fuck?

What’s wrong with me?

Is the exhaustion so palpable that I could have slept on a pile of jagged rocks?

A bed of knives?

A lava bed?

(A waterbed with lava, for the uneducated).

I’m sorry. That was rude and unnecessary. In terms of the grand scheme of things, we’re all uneducated.

what’s not to love

Other than Donald Trump, Vladimir Putin and all their little minions, the villainaires (thank you, Skottie Young for that phrase) ruining the planet and demonstrably making worse the lives of billions of people?

Other than them?

Other than those assholes?

Villainaires? It’s such a good term. We just have to decide on one. It screams [title of book], doesn’t it?

I’ll just go ahead and trademark that right now, then?

bill hicks

A classic. Would have been cancelled in about three seconds these days.

People just won’t put up with yelling, “I’m a drunk cunt!” at hecklers interrupting shows anymore.

Kids these days, am I right?

off the wagon

Not in the alcoholic, drug way, but in the fuck me, I can’t get a thing done way.

Exhaustion is in; focus is out.

Universe, save me from myself. Save me from trials and tribulations.

Save me.

Save me.

Save me.

If you can’t tell, I’m working on a motif.

storm’s a-coming

Picture that in Jasper’s voice from The Simpsons. There’s a big one coming tonight, which means no sleep again when Sofi loses her shit.

I need sleep. Desperately.

I’m so tired.

So tired of everything. And everyone.

brian wilson

Possibly the most brilliant song ever written.

Let that sink in.

There’s unexpected depth there, in addition to being very catchy. The interplay between the upset, relatively mindless work of the Beach Boys and the severe depression and mental illness of Brian Wilson?

Captured in song?

Brilliant.

Good Canadian Boys as well.

We love them.

porch morning

The last couple of days have been nice. Sunlight filtering in through the spider plants and and aloe, turning Mazy’s hair even more golden, somehow. It’s nice in the silence.

Then, of course, other people, dogs barking, cats freaking out and an inability to reach my coffee.

Still, all things considered… this or a war zone, it’s no contest.

I am not bereft of peace.
